How do I use this server? (server.cfg)

i downloaded all the files for my server. ive done everything exactly as http://www.srcds.com said.

i can connect to my server, nobody else can. i cant use rcon. in the 'cfg' folder there is no config.cfg or server.cfg. which file do i use to configure the server to add rcon and such? if i make a text file and name it either server.cfg or config.cfg and shut my server off and turn it back on, it doesnt work no matter what i name it. i am about to rip my hair out.

what is the startupline? what i enter into the cmd line to start up my server? it seems like common sense but i enter this normally:

hldsupdatetool -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir C:\srcds

and it gives me the error. then as you would say, i enter this:

hldsupdatetool -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir C:\srcds -verify_all -autoupdate

and it still does nothing.


and my rcon only works like 1/10 times, ottherwise it keeps saying im losing my RCON connection which is really annoying.

It updates, let it run intill it is done.

Creating a shortcut to run the server
Go to your C:\srcds directory. Find srcds.exe Right click on it and create a shortcut. Now right click on the newly created shortcut and go to properties. Click on the tab shortcut, in the Target line you see probably the following: C:\srcds\srcds.exe Now we need to add the following behind this line to get the server started properly.

-console -game cstrike +ip 213.132.175.152 +maxplayers 20 +map de_dust

Of course you fill in your IP (whatismyip), you can change the maxplayers and which map you want to start the server with. But don’t forget the space between srcds.exe and -console! So the complete line would be like this:

C:\srcds\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike +ip 213.132.175.152 +maxplayers 20 +map de_dust

Click OK when finished.

ok so i updated the server. and it says the half life thing is now up to date. and it still gives me that error, still nobody can join, and the server rcon connection still only works 1/10 times.

then i followed that whole guide from the steam forums.

f8ck it. i give up. thanks for your efforts.

Have you tryed deleting all your files and just trying again?

Delete your .blob files in your installation and do the update agian.
