Weapons missing

I just stood up an Ubuntu server and when players connect they do not have any weapons.

You cannot fire, or see or switch your weapons.

Connecting works just fine just no way to really get anything done.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Nevermind I found out what my problem was.

I needed to set execute permissions on the account running the server for all of the TF2 files

Yeah, that's why its recommended that you never install as root (sudo).
