I know this has probably been asked alot but does anyone know for sure which OS runs srcds better?
I currently have 2 Dual Quad core xeon 2ghz servers with 8gb of RAM.
I am running Windows Server 2008 Standard on both of them and getting 1000FPS and the 12 man servers are running great, but I just made a 32 man 100 Tick 1000FPS server and am getting complaints that it is laggy. Every other 100Tick 1000FPS 12 man server is doing great and I am getting lots of compliments. Does Linux do better with larger servers?
Thank you

The issues you have is running a 32-slot server on a 2ghz core (bad idea). Also, Running a 32-slot server at 100 Tic is a bad idea, if it's even possible to get it stable.

This will just turn into a flame thread. Happens all the time.
Any ways as Mooga say.
32 slots on 2ghz = bad
32 slots 100 tick on 2 ghz = REALLY bad

I believe they work out roughly the same, it all comes down to specs, though i'd say linux might be better for large scale deployments using a custom built kernel.
Well l4d supports launching multiple servers on linux with a single srcds, dont know if that helps with performance or not.

You still have the same amount of processors, so should not change any thing preformance wise

So for hosting 32-slot 100 tick TF2 server, with Metamod, Sourcemod, what is the minimun CPU requirement?
Q6600 used to be a good choice, but I have seen many admins saying that nowaday, after all the patches and added features to the game, Q6600 does no longer have the juice for that.

Raised from the dead by a spammer? Who is that in this very thread? (Nids? eXDee? or me?)
Anyway, I have been renting a dedicated Q6600 box for a month now, but the performance isn't that great. I have been wanting to find some peer opinions on the CPU choice, but too lazy to dig the forum, then saw this thread on top today...
By the way, here is your my popcorn:

No wonder of my confusion...
Nisd,
No more popcorn, but you can have this instead:
A Google search returns good number of discussions regarding Q6600 vs those newer ones (such as Q9400). While those discussions are mostly related to general gaming instead of SRCDS, they at least provide some insights. Here is one of those discussions that I have read:
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/1039206.html
Anyway, since my question regarding the CPU of choice is off-topic anyway, I will stop here.
