FPS 500-900 spikes
#1
I have just put my server on a (slightly inferior to my old) box to run on it's own. It runs nice but the FPS is constatly spiking between 500 and 900. The CPU is running about 20% but I can't seem to calm those spikes. Using FPS_MAX 1000 and got windows media player open (without this it spikes 50-500) the server plays ok, minor graphics slips, but I'm putting it down to this. any ideas? thanks

BTW I am running this on a AMD duron 1200 with 386mb ram on XP. the CPU and ram are both comfortable, CPU running around 15% max and RAM with around 100m free. I am however running this using the onboard VGA adapter, I do have a Geforce 4 mx440 plugged in but they aren't much good anyway. would gfx card make any difference.

I thought the highest possible Fps_Max was 600

that might be part of the problem?

beaut cheers c2um3

fired it up this morning. with FPS_MAX set at 1000, still erratic spiking. Change to FPS_MAX 600 and seems steady at 520 but regular troughs around 3 mins apart to 200, will see how plays tonight, filled my server up last night so will hopefully do the same tonight see how it goes.

not right good made. amd duron 1200 lex730e ultra mobo 386mb ram, XP sp2. runs beautiful though on 7 man (upload limit) had 4 on last night, not filled up yet. controlled remotely using windows rdp. got it spot on so far and does what it needs to. using sv_downloadurl to combat upload issues as well.

Steady 520 now. thanks for the help
