TF2 Server not showing up on the master list - Check here for solutions!
#1
Ok I had been working on my issues with TF2 for weeks. I believe there are 2 issues that were preventing my server from showing up.

1) I stumbled across an old thread where someone said to remove the -port command from your startup. Evidently srcds is smart enough to automatically assign 27015 and then will make sure that multiple ports are used for multiple servers.

2) This is a little more complicated. The issue has to do with WAN/LAN connectivity on your network/internet connection, more specifically with your NAT. From what I can tell, the only configuration that will validate your server with steam is a PPPoE type of setup. What this means is that your ROUTER identifies your WAN IP. If you are using a DHCP setup (meaning your internet device assigns a local IP to your router) it will likely fail. Depending on your setup and level of experience this can be tough to diagnose. In the end, you want your modem set up as bridge, where it passes the WAN IP to your router.

I can try to clarify this for people who do not understand if you think it is your issue, but by doing these two issues, my server showed up on steam within 5 minutes.

Good Luck!

Well the VAST majority of ISPs will use equipment that will only work with PPPoE, so you won't even have the opportunity to screw it up. Even for companies that give you more configurable equipment, they'll generally have you set it up that way. But some people will have older equipment and not know it, or just through random luck will have theirs set up the wrong way.

I know that all the slipstream DSL modems allow you to set them up however you want, and since I can find no other common thread with people having issues, I had to do an awful lot of testing to come up with this possible solution Smile

I don't mean to knock you and I was only picking fun because honestly, I don't understand how it could take 5 minutes to connect up.

Your post is targeted at DSL or actually ADSL type connections. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point-to-Point_Protocol_over_Ethernet

Therefore, I'm sure your information will help such individuals. Probably what would be most useful is that you do some brief setup guide based on this type of user.

I didn't think you were knocking me Toungue

I nearly did the setup guide, but it is going to vary so much based on equipment, I was hoping that people could post here if they were having this kind of issue and try to help that way.

Then you dont need PPPoE set up to have the steam validation

I'm sorry, perhaps you missed the point of my OP. It isn't about using ppoe for your isp. At&T always uses ppoe. it has to do with weather you set it up on your modem or on your router.

Also it's not about steam validation, it's about some unknown process the steam master server list uses to validate server IPs or server aliveness.
