Run SRCDS off UseNet
#1
Hey SRCDS community,

Today i was really bored and was trying to find a free host to put my server on so i can play it publicly. I suddenly then thought of UseNet and files stored on it. Is is possible to modify SRCDS so that it can accept the encoding of UseNet, so people can upload their servers to UseNet and then make it somehow refer off a free website to Counter-Strike Source...would that work?

Thanks Sam

I don't know much about UseNet, but you need actual control via SSH or Console of the server to run the files. If it is Windows, RDP. There is no way to run SRCDS off a web host, or file storage solution.

Beaver is correct. You need the right to execute the program.
Usenet is used for file sharing. All you are able to do is give people access to files. You have no way to execute commands.

Your best bet for a cheap solotion is to try running a server out of your house (if you have the bandwidth) or buying a cheap server. Some people sell servers for as low as $1 a slot...
