Server starts lagging after 1day
#1
Hi guys,

I'm starting to have this constant problem the second I started my CSS Server. Basically it runs good for about a day and after everyday I would join and when walking it would be lagging incredibly! I dont know how this keeps happening but its irritating for the people that use the server. Maybe someone keeps hacking it or something? Not sure..
Its a 100tick Surf Server
Running on a 2.8ghz Xeon duel core.
I've assigned it to CPU 0 with full service priority (Runs as a service with Firedaemon.) It's running on an XP Pro machine with the latest updates installed too. The video card though is not so good on the server but does it have to? I also have srcdsfpsbooster running too and Fps max on 1000.
Any ideas why it keeps mucking up?

Thanks

there is only one of 2 possible things left to be your problem, becuase it's definatly not your cpu.

1) amount of ram. while srcds really doesn't use much its still good to have a god amount. can you please list it

2) bandwidth. depending on the speed of your upload connection you can hold an x amount of slots you can find out what it is and post it here. just go to http://www.speedtest.net . however if this box is in a data center bandwidth won't be an issue.

most important thing for your server will be cpu, ram, bandwidth, and os. other than that nothing would really make much of a difference except the hard drive. the higher the rpm the better.

Not sure of the RPM Speed though.

Upload speed is about 10mbit

Your kidding me.. 10mbit upload is fine for a 12person 100tick.

It was running before fine on the windows 2000 machine, But since I went to XP Pro its started having issues..

I've had bad experiences with Server editions. Rather not remotely update an OS....

Hmmm strange. It is indeed inconvenient isnt it L33t?

I remember on Matties CS:S Addons there was a script that would restart the server daily at 5am..
Might have to use that if no one knows a solution.

Do you restart a map or is the server running one map the whole day?

Running the same map 24/7. Never changes map at all.

Look at my gamemonitor in my sig.

very inconvienient. However i cant auto restart as if i start my hlds before srcds the srcs servers wont connect to steam. But if i start srcds ones first then hlds they do. So my problems are strange

Actually running your map 24/7 aka it never reloads the map will make it lag even though it doesnt use lots of resources.
That kind of lag can be solved with just reloading the map aka changelevel "the same map" or if the server stays empty for 2-6 hours+ it will also happen.

Okay well, I edited my mani config & server so the map will last 30minutes then do a map vote (only greatriver fix) People click to vote then it restarts the map. Annoying that you have to do that.. But oh well! Smile

you dont have to do that, just edit the mapcycle.txt/cfg dont remember the extension, and add greatriver map name to the list and remove all the others, then you dont need the vote.
