Any Way To Running Server For LAN Games
#1
Question
I was wondering if there is any way I could run my server as a LAN server. Since I cannot connect to my server since it and I have the same WAN, there is no way for me to test different plugins. But if I can start it up as a LAN server with all the same plugins and settings, then I could test the server myself.

Is there any extra parameters that I can use when starting my server? Right now I use:
c:\srcds\orangebox\srcds.exe -console -game tf +map achievement_scout -maxplayers 21 -autoupdate

I didn't know if there was a -lan parameter or how to go about this. Thanks for any help!

You do know that if you have the WAN ip as your server, it may still be online and you just have to connect to it locally through your local ip right?

Thanks guys! I found a way that works great in the end. I let my server run as normal (as an internet server). Then open of TF2, go to Find A Server, and go to the LAN tab. Then I connect to it that away. Then I can play on my on server (from the same PC), with everyone else who is playing it (and I have only 5 ping). Works great! Big Grin

So you created a srcds server on the same machine to you play on to host a lan game? Why not just create a listen server?

Yes, I did try different things. I didn't trying connecting from the list of LAN servers because when I was first setting up the server, I was told this wouldn't work. I was told that you cannot connect to an Internet server from an other computer on the same network let alone the same computer itself. It wasn't until I was running out of ideas that I decided to try it anyway.

I don't want to the game running 24-7. I want it running from the console. I just want to be able to join my server the exact same way a normal player does so that I can make sure all the plugins, admin rights, etc. are working correctly.
