Seg. Faults

These have been bugging with me for the last few weeks and I cannot figure out what is causing them. On the HLDS maillist though, I am not alone however many servers aren't suffering the same fate.

ServerSpecs - Virtual Dedicated
OS- CentOs5
RAM- 256mb 1 gb bursted
Game - DoD:S

Maily, here they are

Quote:Thu Feb 26 20:13:03 MST 2009: Server restart in 30 seconds
Could not locate steam binary:./steam, ignoring.

Console initialized.
Game.dll loaded for "Day of Defeat"
./srcds_run: line 352: 9957 Segmentation fault (core dumped) $HL_CMD
cat: hlds.9301.pid: No such file or directory
email debug.log to linux@valvesoftware.com

My mods are Sourcemod and Metamod. The Core dump file states that 'Memory could not be read'. I have never had this problem in my year and a half of running it. I googled and googled and all the fixes have done nothing Sad

A lot of people have been getting segfaults in srcds for the past month or so - it seems to be related to the version of libc6 that you run.

This thread might give you some info:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=794455

Is your VPS hosted on an Intel or AMD box?

Have you tried rebooting it?

Have you tried disabling metamod/sourcemod?

Also, have you updated metamod and sourcemod to the latest versions?

According to this thread, upgrading your kernel may help:

http://forums.srcds.com/viewtopic/9708

I'm waiting till we can chat with our VPS host to upgrade. uname -r will tell you what your current kernel is - we're running 2.6.18.

I narrowed it down to my maps. My flag ship map dod_orange_rusmar_towers_v7 (made a year ago) was causing it and so was the stock dod maps excluding palmero.

I have a more recent made version of the Towers map made about 3 months ago and it seems fine :? So I am just going to leave the server at that...

Upgraded the kernel on our server tonight and it hasn't crashed since.

Strongly recommend upgrading your kernel to 2.6.26 or higher

GoDaddy won't do so, since it isn't 'necessary'.

If you have root/sudo access you can do it yourself - just google for 'upgrade kernel (whatever your distro is)'

I have root, but I am locked out from changing the kernel.

You've tried it using yum?

I think I'd suggest to them that it's "necessary" if they want to retain your custom Big Grin.
