Are you and the server on the same subnet?

If you are running a Linux or Windows DS on your Lan and playing from another machine, yes they have everything to do with it......

... No? In which way would it have anything to do with it? The router doesn't care about the traffic between the computers on the LAN, it only cares about the traffic between the WAN and LAN interface.
