I recently upgraded my connection to a VDSL one , which I get 8.8 mbps (1.1 MB/s) total upload speed.
So , it sounds cool , for the first time of my life , I enjoyed hosting from the same computer I played , most because of the VDSL (the majority of people in my country are still owning ADSL ,with the crappy 0.8 mbps upload cap, and even in VDSL , you must live close to the DSLAM , like me, in order to enjoy the plenty upload plus get what you pay)
BUT....
I just noticed the majority of people playing on my tf2 server , hosted in my pc. They are mostly not from my country, and they are having pings around 120-140 ms.
These people are originated from countries like Turkey, Poland, Sweden, Russia , etc
I think it is unfair for them to play with such pings, even though nobody ever complaint about that, my server is an every day success , joining the same people again.
I know that they join because they like my server and its game mode (surf) because if they even cared about ping, the server would be most times empty or poor populated. On the other hand, I think it's about time to improve their experience, by moving my entire tf2 server to a german datacenter (paid server) just because I respect them and also , I think it is more fair for all the players, since Germany is the center of Europe.
To sum up , I decided to move the server from my home , to a datacenter , for latency reason (more fair play for everyone) , even though I have the power and bandwidth to host it.
Your opinion about this?
P.S: My country is Greece
It seems that players either they don't know how to connect to the new server , or they don't want to, even though I have set a password to the old one , and hostname depicting the new server's ip.
It seems that I have to revert back hosting to my pc again , since they have used to it.
