RE: Serious Partners!

Hey looking into data centers to run my servers out of. Found one with a really good price offering 30Mbps down and 5Mbps up, how many slots can I run with that?

30 slots maybe 40 if you're lucky.

Computerhelper,

Just so you know when hosting server download speed will mean almost nothing. The important part is upload. You will need the most upload possible.

RE: Serious Partners!

21 for 500$ sounds pretty fishy if you ask me.. Toungue
Somethings not right there, Windows 2003 itself costs around 700$ each copy.

RE: Serious Partners!

well with that number of servers whoever installed them probably had an spla with microsoft, which means they paid monthly for them. Which means once they got rid of the servers it wouldn't be a valid license anymore. I would double check on that. Not quite sure how to check that, but I would.

Also 700$ a copy depends on which version of 2003 it is. web edition differs 10fold from enterprise.

RE: Serious Partners!

I said "about 20" on first post with the news because the auctioneer didn't know the exact amount. So it was 22 servers

Specs: (all servers are built the same)
3U Rackmount Case
Intel Xeon EM64T 3.6GHz (x2)
Intel SE7520BD2VD2 Server Mobo
Corsair 1GB DDR2400 (x4)
80GB 10,000RPM HDD (x1)
Microsoft Windows Server Standard 2003 R2 with SP2

These servers run 2grand + each but the guy that built them died and the local bank that foreclosed had no idea what they were worth

RE: Serious Partners!

Is there any one who can offer advise on a website??

I have Dreamweaver and I know some ins-and-outs but should I go with a service that when you sign up has a website builder tool?

Example: Microsoft Live (or something like that. forget there name now)
its includes a free domain, and other stuff, 100% free no first time payment, no monthly payment
1&1.com (or .net)

I also need a logo (A cool one not a LAMO one) any ideas, I tryed logomaker by HP and liked it but is there any free ones?

Sorry if any errors and also for forgetting some stuff typing this on my iPhone in the car

RE: Serious Partners!

Well if your planning on starting a GSP, I wouldn't use some sitebuilder. After all your site is like your store front. Its the first and main thing that will bring in customers. You should almost spend more time on site development than anything. I also wouldn't go with a free site host.. or a free anything for that matter.. If your going to have that many boxes, load one up with a linux flavor and colocate it, and just run your own webserver.

With a logo, hire a graphic designer. You know the saying it takes money to make money. When starting a GSP, that saying really shines. You go cheap, you get that much, almost guaranteed. Even if you dump a ton of cash though, your still not guaranteed to make it, but you will probably have a better chance.
