High Choke

I seem to be having a slight issue with my server and wanted to run down the basic for what I am runing hardware and settings wise.

Server is housed over at layeredtech facility in there new gaming datacenter with 5 tier-1 backbones.

Runing dual opteron 246's with 2 gig's of memory along with 2 scsi drives connected to a 100mb uplink port.

I currently am only runing 1 40player 66tick rate CSS Office server, but people who come in say they are experiencing high choke.

My server side settings:

sv_maxrate 20000
sv_minrate 7500
sv_maxupdaterate 67
sv_minupdaterate 0

Runing windows 2003 with windows media player runing and affinity set.

I have the client's try to set there cl_updaterate/cl_cmdrate/rate to around that and they say it goes up even more or stays the same.

I have my settings set to cl_updaterate 66/cl_cmdrate 66/ rate 20000 and my choke aswell jumps to about 50-60.

I know hardware and internet connection can come into play but I have a solid ISP and most def a kickin rig to back it, I am kinda thinking maby the server-side setting's are wrong of could be tweaked more to help this.

Was curious what other's thought's are on this or if you know what are some good solid settings for larger 66tickrate server.

Any help or positive feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Guy's

P.S I dont have any of those "unlag" command's set into the server.cfg, do thies really make a difference?

Also on the commandline I put +fps_max 600
With how many player in the server do you start to have choke?

W2003 standard works just fine, no absolute need tho tweak the OS.

Put fps_max 501 in server.cfg and not startline. No need to put any "unlag" command in your startline. Report your:

- exact startline
- server.cfg file contents
- With how many players online does the server starts to choke ?

Hey Holl

This is the startup command I am runing:

C:\Office\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike +ip +maxplayers 40 +map cs_office -tickrate 66 +fps_max 600

Not sure when the choke starts I believe around 30+, its hard to tell.
4 Tier 1 connection with a 5th carrier coming along and one tier-2 carrier.

You are correct
I dont know the quality of that network, but I suggest to remove fps_max from the startline and use this in your server.cfg file:

Quote:// bandwidth rates/settings
sv_minrate 10000
sv_maxrate 25000
decalfrequency 10
sv_maxupdaterate 100
sv_minupdaterate 30
fps_max 301
Try running the server for a while without mani mod and see if choke still comes up. If not, I suggest to use beetlesmod, 1 big advantage is you can automatically adjust player rates to a set minimum or maximum. Is there a possibility to check player rates with mani mod? If so, check it with a full server.

Also: what ping limit do you use and what are the average pings in the server?

Used hardware setup should be fine to run about 100 tickrate 66 slots.

I stopped by for a breif moment last night, and I only noticed high choke while spawning, although Office with 40 that was crazy. I did experience some lagging with about 15 people on my screen all shooting, but that is probably on my end. (p4 1.4)
