SRCDS Steam group

I'm having trouble installing either a DOD:S or a CS:S server on my Linux box. I consider myself fairly tech savy, but new to linux, so bear with me.

I went through all the motions, installed both games. I really don't care much for CS:S, but I couldn't get DOD:S to work, so I decided to try CS:S. No luck, neither work. I created a new user, created a new directory, installed the game.

I got the following message after much waiting:
Quote:HLDS installation up to date

Well, now I go to run my server, using
Quote:./srcds_run -console -game cstrike -port 27015 +ip -maxplayers 14

And it stops running at this point. I can't tell if it's thinking or not working, because it dosen't advance. The last screen that I see in my Putty SSH client is

Quote:[dodserver@as srcds]$ ./srcds_run -console -game cstrike -port 27015 +ip -maxplayers 14
Auto detecting CPU
Using SSE2 Optimised binary.
Auto-restarting the server on crash

Console initialized.
Attempted to create unknown entity type event_queue_saveload_proxy!
Game.dll loaded for "Counter-Strike: Source"
maxplayers set to 14
Network: IP, mode MP, dedicated Yes, ports 27015 SV / 27005 CL

Any ideas?

What version of GCC is necessary to run the server?
You have to tell the server to load a map or it will not initialize.
