TF2 Ded.Server on Vista64Ultimate over !Steam!
Hi there,
Does anybody has expierence with a TF2 Dedicated Server running over Steam on Vista64?
Since Vista was released I am succesfully running a 8-slot CS:S Server on a 1MBit up-connection (also over Steam and for internet play).
I downloaded TF2 Dedicated Server over Steam, ....configured it without any plugins, ... and the result was:
I managed this:
followed by:
Afterwards I' ve added a server.cfg to be prepared for my netsettings and to know if this file is missing.
Other things I have checked:
- open Ports of my Router ..... they are set and correct because Source Ded. Server is running fine
- Windows User Account Management disabled .... when enabled: this was also no problem for the Source Ded. Server
- A lot of Steam- and Windows-restarts .... to apply the changes in the Windows User Account Management
thx for any info

It's vista being stupid.
I found this via google:
"If you're using Vista, right click the game and select "run as administrator."
Worked for all of the games I played before getting rid of Vista."

if you've seen the any of the matrix movies, a game server is not all that different. it runs a version of the game that handles the entire world for each client connected.
that's the 2 sentence explanation.

yea.. that makes sense.. vista doesn't allow programs to write to certain ways. Run it as administrator and it should work.

I am sorry - of course I have done this
- run Steam as Administrator
- run TF2 Ded Server as Administrator
-> no chance for me to run TF2 Ded. Server
To run the "old" Source Ded. Server (running CS:S) is no problem on the same PC
"Run as Administrator" in Vista is like brushing my teeth every morning

well, that error is because you are not running as admin.
Why are you using the steam version of the Dedicated server anyways?
Why not user srcds?

I would use BeetlesMod or SourceMod.
