[TeamFortress2] Server online for only seconds oO ! Spent all night on it lol !

Hello everyone !

A friend and I tried all night to create a Dedicated Server for Team Fortress 2. He rents a server where he can host files, create a game or TS server, or even host a website. He only uses it for file hosting for his job so he never tried to create a dedicated server. He uses Win Serv 2003

Installation and first launch:
So we were on skype trying to install it and configure it using this tutorial and this tutorial

We used the server.cfg file from the first tutorial (the one from these forums ^^, thanks for the server.cfg example). We had to create it.

We then launched the server using this command:

c:\ServerFolder\orangebox\srcds.exe -console -game tf -hostport 27015 +maxplayers 10 +map ctf_2fort

That exact command ! The server launched and seemed to run correctly !

When all the troubles started:
We could then see it in the Steam and Team Fortress 2 browsers, and we could add it to our Favourites using the IP adress.

But when we tried to join it, the loading was horribly long and each time we gave up and when we then returned to the server browser the server had dissapeared (on Steam and in Team Fortress 2).

Also I could see the server disappear when my friend tried to join it ! At first I would see 1/10 then I'd refresh and the server was gone (the rest of the list refreshed correctly)

Also when we tried commands like:
c:\ServerFolder\orangebox\srcds.exe -autoupdate to try and update the server, it didn't work Sad, we also tried srcds.exe -autoupdate while in the folder where the *.exe is but it didn't work (all done in CMD window via Start>Run>Cmd.

Thanks for your help and time, and forgive me please for my text style I haven't slept so i'm a bit feeling like if I was underwater on Mars !

Regards,

Kruger

If you're running beetlesmod, it had a bug with the update.

Get the latest version from http://www.beetlesmod.com/comm/

TF2 DSs were all f*cked up last night.
Update your server again and try.

that's the 2 sentence explanation.

hi again, thanks for your replies.

We didn't use any kind of mods or things like that, just the normal, simple dedicated server. We'll try to update again but just to be sure what's the exact command we have to type to update the server please?

c:\ServerFolder\orangebox\srcds.exe -autoupdate ? or something else?

Does this have to be typed in the CMD window or in the server console?

Thanks again for your time !

that command doesn't do anything
find where ever you installed the hlupdatetool and do this:

Code:
hlupdatetool.exe -command update -game tf -dir DIR_WHERE_INSTALLED -verify_all
