RE: Interested in starting a GSP
Keep it to yourself
Nice deal there, I'd get it for sure (even if I wasn't starting a GSP or something) I'd get at least 2
I got 5 of em and another 5 coming next month AND a 4u with 2 Xeon Quadies 3.0GHz, 16GB Ram. If I don't start a GSP I will most likely sell a few of them.

That is part of the reason I am even thinking about starting a GSP, my beginning costs are far far lower than what most would be.

Yeah lucky lol. You got real good contacts. Just make sure you know EVERYTHING about SRCDS. Also two recommendations, only host what you know, SRCDS. Tcadmin lets you host like 60+ games but you need to know every game and how they work so unless you have a lot of time...lol. Then also dont web host and game host at the same time. Web hosting is seriously dead brainless and much easier (in my opinion) then game hosting except when starting out, you dont want to overload yourself.

I would only be doing Source games and MAYBE CS1.6. At a later date I might take the time to learn newer games and offer them after I know it inside and out. I would only offer game hosting. No webhosting or voice servers. One huge mistake made by most people is over extending and trying to start with four or five major games, voice servers, and webhosting all at once. Only offering game hosting allows me to focus on providing the best service possible rather than spreading out my attention on other things such as the voice and webhosting.
I have started a webhosting company before and was Tech Support for another. Will never do it again either. It is extremely boring, little to no effort required, customers are some of the biggest jerks you will ever meet, they expect everything to be setup soon as they click a button. Not worth my time

lol good point. But if you ever did need web hosting because it does do good with game servers, just do reseller accounts.

I really doubt it. Unless you get a great deal from ebay, I would NEVER trust ebay with my future servers.

Last thing I bought on Ebay was a PS2 network adapter. I DO NOT buy server parts on Ebay even is they say they are "new." The only computer part I have bought from Ebay recently was a hard drive because one of mine in my desktop died and I really didn't feel the need to buy it at full price. The last thing I even thought about buying in the server section on Ebay was a lot of 10 fibre channel hard drives to add to the collection of the ones I currently have (because they were the same size and brand), but they were used and untested.
I only buy NEW server parts from people I trust that run legit companies. The fact that you buy most of your stuff from Ebay shows that you are willing to skimp out on your units.
Next time I suggest you don't accuse someone of something unless you have proof, even then sometimes it is best to just keep your mouth shut and not making an ass out of yourself.
@Spartanfrog, I wouldn't trust a unit off of Ebay. Sure it can save your money but somethings are not worth the risk. Even more so when you are providing a service with what you buy. However, cases, spare parts for my personal computer, accessories and that sort of thing I'm fine with buying off Ebay.

Eh I just dont particulary like Ebay for computer parts. Sometimes you get a great piece for a great price, or you get ripped off :/. I only like to buy things from big corporations (Dell, HP,), build them myself, or if I actually see the server with my own eyes.

RE: Interested in starting a GSP
Many years ago my family used to use Ubid for computers and we've never had problems with those. However we use them as personal computers and I think Ubid is re-sale... However I haven't looked at Ubid for a good 4 or 5 years :-P

if you've seen the any of the matrix movies, a game server is not all that different. it runs a version of the game that handles the entire world for each client connected.
that's the 2 sentence explanation.

RE: Interested in starting a GSP
there are many reputable dealers that sell on ebay, you just have to know who you are dealing with.
