Tweakman, -autoupdate does not work on Windows Wink
For Linux yes you can use it but you need the updatetool for windows.

Those errors are completely normal, you can ignore them.

Also you don't need a different account, the SRCDS is free and can be installed seperately by using hldsupdatetool.exe

This error can be a problem? "Could not establish connection to Steam servers"

it either means that your router is blocking ports or just a bug with the transmission.

no matter how good your computer is you should never run a server and the game from the same computer.

RE: Tutorial: How to setup a DOD:S server
It wont screw your computer but it's built to run on a dedicated machine, thus guarantees the quality of the game.

playing and running from the same machine is a lot more issue and performance sensitive.

RE: Tutorial: How to setup a DOD:S server (Linux)
Follow the guidelines as stated above, all that is really different is the following:

Create a new text file named server.cfg and edit it in kwrite (or your favorite text editor) add the commands and configure as stated above and save as stated.

I store all my HLDS1 and HLDS2 servers in a folder in my user home called 'steam' in this steam folder I have all the directories for dedicated servers. In this case I have a folder names srcsds_l for my Source Server Files. Now I create a .sh (a windows type of batch file for linux). Conveniently I call my DoD:S launcher called dods.sh as a good practice. So use the following server launcher command:
[/code]
Code:
#!/bin/sh
echo "Starting KW:DoDS Server"
cd /home/gameuser/steam/srcds_l
./srcds_run -console -game dod -pingboost 3 +maxplayers 10 -ip XX.XX.XX.XX -port 270XX +map dod_anzio +exec server.cfg -autoupdate

Mind you though, I run very good and reliable servers and I have a very good machine to do it on as well as a fantastic broadband connection.

Our server is now up and running as we speak at a test. Something new for us in 2008.

Hope this helps the Linux server operators.
